About the Studio

Gain Pottery Studio sits in Petersburg, Illinois — a small town with an outsized place in American history. When the village of New Salem was abandoned in the 1840s, its residents resettled here in Petersburg, a town Abraham Lincoln himself helped survey in 1836. The very lot this studio stands on was measured and platted by his hand.

That sense of place — quiet, unhurried, made by people who worked with what was around them — runs through everything that comes off our wheels. Each piece is hand-thrown and fired in our studio, one at a time. We make bowls, mugs, vases, and serving pieces meant to be lived with: used at a daily breakfast, set out for company, passed around a table.

Our work is carried locally at Moonbeams & Magpies in Petersburg, and you can find us online through our Etsy shop or follow along on Facebook. We love hearing from people who collect or enjoy the work — drop us a note any time at info@gainpottery.com.
